This book offers insights into the structure and function of various skn and hair conditioning agents. It is of interest to the formulator of cosmetic products, or to sophisticated consumers wanting a better understanding about products they buy. This book should also be of interest to textile formulators, since many of the same products can be transferred over into the textile market. Good addition to technical library.

Considerations on Western Marxism
Published in Textbook Binding by Prometheus Books (June, 1976)
Author: Perry. Anderson
Average review score:

Negative dialectics between theory and practice
Perry Anderson is a leading editor of New Left review and a prominent Marxist historian. His two part work, ¡®Passages from Antiquity to Feudalism¡¯ and ¡®Lineage of the Absolutist State¡¯ (see my reviews on those books for detail), is now counted as classic. In this short booklet, he poses two perplexing questions: ¡®why have Western Marxists been written so difficult to read?¡¯; ¡®why has there been no significant research on politics and economy among Western Marxists circle? Marxism is initially oriented towards practice. So its theory should be easy to be read by layperson and for its major premise is to transform the political economy, Marxist theory should tackle the very target of the transformation. But leading figures of Western Marxism, such as Lukacs, members of Frankfurt school like Adorno, Horkheimer, Marcuse, Wlater Benjamin, and Fromm, paid little, if any, attention to economics or politics, but to methodology, philosophy or aesthetics. Besides, their writing styles are not behind Hegel or Heidegger in its difficulty to decipher.
Perry Anderson argues that it¡¯s because the lack of prospect of revolution after the end of World War I. Marxist theorists were isolated from working class that was supposed to be the agent of revolution to end capitalism. Without such a vision, Marxist theorists were obsessed with pessimism. They could not have the vision of revolution. So philosophy and aesthetics were the escape from reality. For example, most works of Frankfurt school take a cynical stance against the reality under capitalism. They need a sanctuary protected from polluted reality. But that kind of place could not be found in the real world. Philosophy and aesthetics provide the spot to look down on the muddy secular world.
One writes to be read by others. But interwar Marxists did not imagine of any reader in working class. Therefore their works should be directed to colleague scholars in ivory tower.
In Adorno¡¯s word, such a stance should be called as ¡®Negative Dialectics¡¯. Adorno said ¡®Negative dialectics is a phrase flouts tradition. As early as Plato, dialectics meant to achieve something positive by means of negation: the thought figure of a ¡®negation of negation¡¯¡¦Negative dialectics seeks to free dialectics from such affirmative traits.¡¯ It¡¯s negation for negation. There is nothing to be achieved (revolution). Dialectics, thus, cannot but float over reality towards unrealized, maybe unattainable, reality.

Corkscrews and Bottle Openers
Published in Paperback by Shire Pubns (March, 1999)
Authors: Evans Perry and Evan Perry
Average review score:

Great info on corkscrews, not much on openers.
If you are looking for a short and concise book on corkscrews, this deserves a look. If, like me, you are looking for a book on bottle openers this is NOT the one.

A Course Glossary: 158 Definitions from A Course in Miracles
Published in Paperback by Circle of Atonement (01 January, 1996)
Author: Robert Perry
Average review score:

Another good look at A Course in Miracles
When I began studying the Course (and for several years, actually) I found all of Robert Perry's work helpful, interesting, and thought provoking. I find his work to have more substance to it than Tara Singh's while being easier to read than Kenneth Wapnick and more in depth than Marianne Williamson. I recommend him highly. As always, his work is a compliment to the Course itself, not a substitute. This particular book gives some very good definitions of terms the Course uses differently than the way we "normally" define them. Can help clear up quite a bit of confusion.

Dancing With the Kobzar (Studies in Anabaptist and Mennonite History, No. 38)
Published in Paperback by Pandora Pr USA (May, 2000)
Author: Perry Bush
Average review score:

Bluffton College, not to shabby, eh?
Dancing With the Kobzar is definitely the best book that I have ever read from the "Studies in the Anabaptist and Mennonite History" series. It takes the history of a small Mennonite college in NW Ohio, and actually makes it into interesting read. Not only that, but a clear thesis and structure are presented at the beginning of the work and never once does the author stray away from these. That, along with the books transitions, makes the piece flow together as if it was a New York Times bestseller. Finally, the masterpiece of the book is the index. It seems to have been put together by a genius, and allows for any scholar to find the information that he needs almost instantaneously. A must read for any BC alumni or scholars of the Mennonite religion.

A Dangerous Hope: Encountering the God of Grace
Published in Hardcover by Beacon Hill Press (January, 1998)
Authors: Albert Truesdale and Bonnie Perry
Average review score:

Deserves at least ten stars...OR MORE!
Once again, Al Truesdale (and Bonnie Perry) have brought the unchanging truth of God's Word to the reading public, and we are the better for it. This "dangerous hope" is only dangerous if you don't possess it: The confident assurance that God through His eternal Son, and in the power of the Holy Spirit has redeemed mankind (who calls on Him)and places that man, woman, boy, or girl in the Spirit-created community called the church. Chapter Eight, "More than members" is the clearest explanation of the New Testament plan for the Body of Christ that has come out in many years. Truesdale and Perry engage the "modern" thinkers, with Pauline spirituality (as read in the Apostles letters in the New Testament) and shows us where we need to really become the "community of faith" and not just a "collection of individuals." The concluding stories at the end of each chapter hit home, in a large way! From the author's pen of "If God is God, then Why? Letters from Oklahoma City", we have another volume, which is destined to become a classic on the subject of God's grace. "A Dangerous Hope: Encountering the God of grace" should be required reading in every church...starting with the pastor! His/her job of "shepherding the sheep" would be much more enjoyable/rewarding afterwards.

Dangerous to Love (Harlequin Superromance, No 652)
Published in Paperback by Harlequin (July, 1995)
Author: Carol Duncan Perry
Average review score:

:)
Vicki Winslow did the right thing, by telling the police, when she discovered that her boss was embezzling money. She testified against her boss and he was found guilty. Vicki refuses, however, to enter the Witness Protection Program. Vicki claims that her family and her small hometown are all the protection that she needs. Caine Alexander works in security and never takes bodyguard jobs, but he agrees to look out for Vicki as a favor to his brother-in-law (the detective in charge of the case).

Caine has no idea what is in store for him when he arrives in Little Falls, Arkansas. He has to deal with a protective small town, a poetry quoting cousin, a feisty great-aunt, a cabin in the woods, two large dogs, and a skunk (yes a skunk). Caine is not an easy man to know. He keeps walls up so that people cannot get too close. Vicki refuses to let Caine shut her out. Caine hates that she has gotten under his skin, but he can do nothing to stop the attraction that is between them. The more time that they spend together the closer they seem to get.

I enjoyed this story more than I thought I would. The romance between Caine and Vicki is great. The mystery and danger makes for a fast paced read. There was even an element of comedy with the addition of sweetpea. The skunk was great, who would ever have thought to add a skunk pet. This is a good book that I would highly recommend.
